Men, this Way with Bryan Reeves
Like me, Bryan Reeves grew up surrounded by women; mothers, sisters, and friends. So naturally you would assume we would be in tune with what they want and how to make a relationship work with them. That couldn’t be further from the truth as we have both moved on from the typical Nice Guy behaviors we learned would please our mothers and eventually our romantic partners.
On this week’s podcast, Bryan Reeve, life and love coach from Los Angeles, CA, joins me to talk about the three stages of a relationship and how we bounce back and forth between codependency and independence. Keep reading for a brief description of the three stages of a relationship!
Codependence asks “Who gets to exist?” Most couples bounce back and forth between stage 1 and stage 2. “But boy was I quick to make her responsible for me.” Conflict in stage 1 is violating and manipulative.
Independence is a cultural ideal in America, for example, Independence Day is one of our biggest national holidays! These first two stages are really confusing because we have societal expectations built up. Chemistry or connection?
Intimate Communion is the experience of “We” which you cannot do by yourself. To evolve into the “couple bubble”, it takes courage where you learn the art of true partnership and connection. Conflict in stage three is fruitful and beautiful where we find deeper connection with our partner. During our interview, Bryan says, “I had to confront all of the ways I was connected to purpose in a shallow way!”
The beauty within a committed and lasting relationship is putting aside all of our bullshit and getting curious about our partner’s needs, wants, and uniqueness. Lastly, we discuss how having female friends holds us back from truly connecting deeply with our intimate or romantic partner.
Bryan’s mission in life is to, “To Serve the World one Awakened Man, one Illuminated Woman, one Thriving Relationship at a Time.” If his message resonates with you today, please check out his podcast, Men, this Way or on the blog at bryanreeves.com to read his viral articles that have helped as many as one million readers per day!
